THE Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered oral arguments on the Writ of Kalikasan case seeking to protect protect, preserve, rehabilitate, and to restore the marine environment in the West Philippine Sea.

The affected areas are the Scarborough Shoal also known as the Panatag Shoal in the municipality of Masinloc in Zambales; the Ayungin Shoal and Panganiban Reef, also known as Mischief Reef, in the municipality of Kalayaan in Palawan.

Well-placed sources of the Manila Times said the oral arguments were set on June 25.

The high tribunal issued the ruling upon the resumption of its en banc session after a month-long recess.

The petitioners are members of the Kalayaan Palawan Farmers and Fisherfolk Association who are members of the fisherfolk community in Kalayaan while the others are residents of Sitio Kinabukasan in Cawag, Zambales. JOMAR CANLAS
