ANGADANAN, Isabela –– The P459-million Pigalo Bridge, which would serve as a vital link between the towns of Angadanan and San Guillermo and other areas in Isabela province, was formally opened on Thursday.

Public Works Secretary Mark Villar led the opening of the new bridge, which replaced the old structure destroyed by typhoons Pedring and Quiel in 2011.

The project includes 250-meter approaches on each side, a 7.32-meter roadway, nine 2-2.50-diameter bored piles (deep foundation), and two abutments with drainage structure and embankment protection works.

The bridge also has a concrete sidewalk and concrete railings for pedestrians.

FEATURED STORIES

“The durability of the bridge and the ease of transportation with its construction will surely help villagers here. Although the bridge was completed last March, we continued to improve the integrity of the structure due to the anticipated high volume of heavy vehicles that are expected to pass through the bridge on a daily basis,” Villar said.

The bridge would also serve as an “efficient transport facility” for the delivery of agricultural products from far-flung areas to big commercial hubs in Cagayan Valley, said Anac-IP Partylist Rep. Jose Panganiban Jr. / Villamor Visaya Jr. (Editor: Leti Z. Boniol)
