Pacquiao enters Forbes 100 richest athletes in 2019

SEN. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao is the only Filipino to appear in the 100 highest-paid athletes of 2019, in a list released by Forbes magazine.

Placing 92nd, Pacquiao was paid US$26 million this year (US$24 million in winnings and US$2 million in commercial endorsements).

Pacquiao is preparing for his next fight against Keith Thurman, which will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 20.

He had actively campaigned for candidates under President Rodrigo Duterte’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-LABAN) for the 2019 midterm elections.

The top 10 highest-paid athletes of 2019 were:

1. Lionel Messi ($127 million), Football
2. Cristiano Ronaldo ($109 million), Football
3. Neymar ($105 million), Football
4. Canelo Alvarez ($94 million), Boxing
5. Roger Federer ($93.4 million), Tennis
6. Russell Wilson ($89.5 million), National Football League (NFL)
7. Aaron Rodgers ($89.3 million), NFL
8. LeBron James ($89 million), NBA
9. Stephen Curry ($79.8 million), NBA
10. Kevin Durant ($65.4 million), NBA

In 2017, Forbes also named Pacquiao as among the 25 highest-paid athletes of all-time, ranked 20th, with career earnings of US$510 million. He joined the ranks of NBA great Michael Jordan ($1.85 billion) and star golfers Tiger Woods($1.7 billion) and Arnold Palmer ($1.4 billion) in the list. ARIC JOHN SY CUA
