MANILA, Philippines — The Luzon grid was placed under yellow and red alerts on Tuesday, June 18, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCPP) said.

In a Facebook post, the NCGP said the country’s biggest power grid will be under yellow alert during the following time periods:

9a.m. – 10a.m.

11a.m. – 1p.m.
3p.m. – 5p.m.
6p.m. – 9p.m.

The Luzon grid will be under red alert status from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and again on 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The NGCP said a yellow alert is raised when a grid’s reserve power — the difference between supply and demand — is below the required level.

A red alert is likewise raised when it is likely that demand will outstrip available generating capacity.

The NGCP said the said grid’s available capacity is at 11,402 megawatts (MW) while its peak demand is at 11,114 MW.

“Details on the cause to be announced by the Department of Energy (DOE) later in the day,” the NGCP said.  (Editor: Gilbert S. Gaviola)
