RESIDENTS in Metro Manila and nearby provinces will have limited water supply until Saturday as regulators started implementing rotational service interruptions as the Angat Dam neared critical level.

In its advisory, Maynilad Water Services Inc. said it wanted to maximize the limited supply and ensure that all customers would have water even for a few hours daily.

The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) decided to reduce anew the allocation to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), which divides this between Manila Water Co. Inc. and Maynilad.

The two concessionaires would receive 40 cubic meters per second (cms) from 46 cms.

Manila Water, which caters to the East Zone, started its 8 to 12-hour service intereuptions on Tuesday.

Maynilad said measures were in place to mitigate the impact of this reduced allocation, including the extension of operating hours of our pumping stations and reactivation of deep wells.

If necessary, the West Zone concessionaire would deploy mobile water tankers and install static water tanks for severely affected areas.

“We encourage our affected customers to store enough water when supply is available. Upon resumption of water service, please let the water flow out for a few seconds until the supply clears,” it added. JORDEENE B. LAGARE
