Woman gov’t employee in Sultan Kudarat shot dead

TACURONG CITY—Unidentified gunmen shot dead Wednesday afternoon a woman government employee of Lambayong town in Sultan Kudarat, police said.

Capt. Herman Luna, Lambayong town police chief, said Remesyl Orbigo Valdez, 39, a local government employee administering local market operations and a resident of Barangay Poblacion, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital after the 5:30 p.m. ambush.

Luna said the victim was riding a motorbike driven by her husband on the way to Tacurong City when fired upon by men riding in tandem along the national highway in Purok Namnama, Barangay Poblacion.

Police said the husband told investigators there were two men on separate motorbikes and one of them shot her.

As the couple fell off the motorcycle, the gunman fired more shots on the victim.

Police rushed Valdez to the hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. The husband was unharmed. 

Luna said Lambayong Mayor Ferdinand Agduma offered P100,000 reward to anyone who could provide information to the police leading to the identity of the suspects.

The killing of Valdez was the fourth shooting incident in Lambayong in a span of four days.

Edgar Lucero, 53, a defeated mayoral candidate of Lambayong was also killed by men riding in tandem on Saturday. He was also on a motorbike when shot. /je
