‘Drunk’ man stabs 4-year-old nephew to death

MANILA, Philippines – Police arrested a 51-year-old man who, while allegedly drunk, stabbed to death his four-year-old nephew in Manila on Monday.
Footage from a closed-circuit television camera installed near Gate 10 of the Farola Compound showed that the boy, Lanz Genesis dela Cruz, was playing near his family’s house at around 1 p.m. and that he then entered the suspect’s house at around 1:12 p.m.
According to a report from the Manila Police District, a witness saw the supposedly drunk suspect — identified as Edmundo Perucho — at around 1:40 p.m. holding a kitchen knife while shouting: “Patayin niyo na ako. Pumatay ako ng bata.”
[Kill me now. I killed a kid.]
Police said another witness, upon hearing these words, went inside the suspect’s house where he found the boy lying on the floor and bathing in his own blood.
The boy was rushed to Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center, where was declared dead on arrival at 2 p.m.
The suspect, meanwhile, was arrested by officers of the MPD Police Station 2 in Santa Cruz.
Investigation showed that prior to the incident, the suspect had a drinking session with the boy’s father.
The suspect was sharing his grievances about his wife allegedly cheating on him. The suspect is the husband of the elder sister of the boy’s father, according to investigators.
Police said that the suspect was accusing his wife’s family of tolerating her alleged infidelity.
