MANILA, Philippines — Peter Joemel Advincula, the self-confessed “Bikoy” – narrator in the “Ang Totoong Narcolist” video series, has sought protection from the government due to death threats, his counsel, Atty. Larry Gadon, said Monday.

Gadon, who went to the Department of Justice (DOJ) to submit Advincula’s duly accomplished application form and letter of intent addressed to Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, claimed his client has been receiving death threats almost every day.

“This is going to be the application for the Witness Protection Program (WPP),” Gadon told reporters.

He said Advincula’s life is at risk because of the number of prominent personalities he implicated in his testimony about an alleged plot to destabilize the Duterte administration.

The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has filed a sedition case against Advincula as well as Vice President Leni Robredo, Otso Diretso senatorial candidates except Mar Roxas, Church leaders, incumbent and former senators, among others.

PNP-CIDG’s complaint was based on Advincula’s words.

“Even if we do not assume that they will themselves do some nasty act, we cannot say about their supporters,” Gadon said.

“Araw araw naman sya nakakatanggap [ng death threats]… in fact hindi na namin pinaguusapan kasi masyado ng naging ordinary,” he added.

Earlier, Guevarra said if Advincula will apply for WPP, he may be given provisional coverage, which means he will be provided protection while his application is still under evaluation.

Gadon said Advincula is qualified to be placed under WPP given that he is the least guilty of all the personalities mentioned in the complaint.

DOJ has set the preliminary investigation on the sedition complaint on August 9. /kga
