NHA to provide insecticide-treated net to Marawi evacuees

MARAWI CITY –– The National Housing Authority (NHA) will provide insecticide-treated nets to displaced families of war-ravaged Marawi to stem the rise of dengue infections.
The NHA assistance would cover the thousands of families living in transitory shelters, said Engr. Roderick Ybaṅez, Head of NHA’s Marawi Project Management Office.
They plan to distribute the nets early next month when these are available, he added.
The nets will cover windows to prevent mosquitoes and other insects from getting inside the houses.
The local government has sounded a dengue alarm throughout the city following the spike in dengue infections.
Dr. Ali Dalidig, Marawi City Health Officer, disclosed that 277 dengue cases were recorded in the city from January to July this year. Three of these resulted in death.
Of the 277 cases, 121 or 44 percent were recorded in July.
Dalidig said this has alarmed Mayor Majul Gandamra. He ordered a massive clean-up of the city’s 72 barangays.
Gandamra also asked schools to suspend the wearing of uniforms for the children so that they could wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts./lb
