Vince Perez, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) chairman and former Energy secretary, remembered how Lopez worked closely with the foundation to preserve the “beautiful islands that she so loved” such as Sibuyan, Romblon, Mindoro, and Palawan by standing against coal plants in these areas and promoting renewable energy and sustainable livelihood.

“To keep the legacy of Gina alive, we will continue to pursue to make sure that those beautiful islands remain fossil free, that we’re only going to use clean renewable energy in those beautiful islands. Those are the dreams that Gina had and those are the dreams that will keep alive,” Perez said.

AG Saño, a member of Greenpeace, was also witness to Lopez’s love for the environment when she supported his advocacy on saving dolphins.

“Napakalaking kawalan hindi lang sa environmental movement kundi sa laban para sa kalikasan ang pagkawala ni Ms. Gina Lopez. Napakabigat na pangyayaring ito dahil napakalakas ng boses niya sa pakikipaglaban (Ms. Gina Lopez’s passing is a huge loss not only for the environmental movement but also for the fight for the environment. This is a big blow because she had a loud voice in the fight),” Saño said.

Ernie Lopez, Gina’s younger brother and the family’s spokesman, thanked the people who came to her wake.

“Gina, rest in peace. Huwag kang mag-alinlangan dahil maraming taong nagmamahal sa iyo, maraming nakakaalala sa iyo. Maraming na-touch sa iyong buhay. Pangako namin na ipagpapatuloy namin yung iyong buhay,” said the President and Chief Executive Officer of ABS-CBN Publishing Inc.
