SANTIAGO CITY – Four people were injured in a fire that hit a Japanese restaurant on the third floor inside a mall here on Wednesday.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) traced the cause of the fire at the Gorio’s Yakiniku Japanese Grill at the Robinsons’ Place in Mabini to a leak from its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank.

One of the four unidentified customers sustained minor burns while three experienced dizziness and were rushed to the Adventist Hospital.

Damage to the restaurant, owned by Gary Cayetano of Centro East, has yet to be assessed by investigators of the incident that happened at about 11:41 a.m.

Initial investigation showed that the pipeline of the tank connected to a burner that was installed onto a single table inside the restaurant had sustained a leak, which caused the fire.

The fire was put out after 15 minutes but not before it caused panic among customers who ran outside the mall.VINCE JACOB A. VISAYA
