Shaw customers in Surrey were without internet, television and phone services for at least two days after nearby construction damaged fibre connections in the Shaw system.

The problem was reported some time late Monday or early Tuesday, with some customers reporting outage issues on Monday evening.

Shaw crews were sent to investigate early Tuesday and have continued working Tuesday overnight into Wednesday to repair the outage.

“Damage to fibre in the area has unfortunately resulted in some customers in North Delta, South Westminster, Bridgeview, Guildford, St. Helens Park and the surrounding areas of Surrey experiencing interruptions to their internet, television and home phone services,” according to the latest update shared by Shaw at 8:17 a.m. on Wednesday.

“Our technical crews are onsite working to repair the damage and restore service as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

An update late Wednesday confirmed the issue was caused by construction work conducted nearby Shaw infrastructure.

Services affected by the outage include both home and business internet, home and business phone service, digital TV, Video on Demand, Gateway, BlueSky TV, and wifi access points.

It is unknown how many customers were affected. Some reported their service had been restored Wednesday overnight.

Shaw declined to comment when reached, referring Postmedia to an online update page.
