The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) officer gunned down in Muntinlupa City on Tuesday may have been involved in illegal drugs, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said.

Ruperto Traya, 53, chief administrative officer 3 of BuCor, was shot dead by a lone gunman as he was opening the gate of a rented parking lot in Amparo Street in Barangay Poblacion, Muntinlupa City.

“Sinabi, ‘yun ay na assign sa Leyte, nilipat ng Leyte may atraso raw ‘yan rito dahil sa ang sinasabi allegation na involved sa drugs (I was told, he was assigned in Leyte, transferred to Leyte because of alleged involvement in drugs),” Eleazar told The Manila Times in a phone interview.

Eleazar added that Traya’s killing had nothing to do with the controversy surrounding former Calauan, Laguna mayor Antonio Sanchez.

“Ah wala, wala sa ngayon wala, tignan natin so far sa ngayon ‘di natin maconnect ‘yun (Nothing, not for now, we’ll see but so far, we can’t connect it),” Eleazar said.
