LPA intensifies into tropical depression

The low-pressure area east of the country has intensified into a tropical depression and will be named “Marilyn” as soon as it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration estimated the location of the tropical cyclone at 1,495 kilometers east of Visayas or still outside the PAR around 10 a.m. yesterday.

The LPA developed into a tropical depression last Tuesday night.

The tropical depression, which may enter the PAR within 48 hours, has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 70 kph. It is forecast to move east-northeast at 15 kph.
