A man has died after being hit by a car in east Vancouver during Wednesday’s rush hour.

According to Vancouver police, the 33-year-old man was crossing the street near East 48th Avenue and Tyne Street when he was struck by an eastbound Suzuki station wagon around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

A number of witnesses and passersby stopped to help before first responders arrived, but the man did not survive. Police believe the man may have run out into the street just before being hit.

It is the city’s sixth pedestrian fatality of the year.

Police are now asking anyone who witnessed the fatal collision or who may have dashboard camera footage to contact Vancouver police at 604-717-3012.
