A Vancouver bungalow was destroyed on Thursday afternoon.

Vancouver Fire Services spokesman Capt. Jonathan Gormick told Postmedia News that the fire on the 300-block of East 53rd Avenue was called in just after 11 a.m. and took five hours to fight.

He said there were almost 50 firefighters at the scene during the peak of the blaze. The last vehicle left the scene at 4 p.m.

“The damage to the house is catastrophic and it will likely need to be demolished,” said Gormick, adding that no one has hurt in the blaze.

Fire investigators are still processing evidence to determine cause. The home was 1,400 square feet with an assessed value of $1.4 million.
