Vancouver police have arrested and charged a 40-year-old man with allegedly breaking into and setting on fire the Emily Carr University campus.

On Tuesday, police announced Nathan MacLeod, 40, was arrested on Oct. 11 and remained in custody. MacLeod is charged with two counts of break and enter and one count of arson.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday morning.

On Oct. 5 around 8:30 a.m., police were called to the art and design campus at 520 East 1st Ave. for what Vancouver Fire Rescue Services believed was a suspicious fire.

The school was then closed for several days while repairs and clean-up took place. There were no injuries in the fire though some offices and a small number of personal effects and artwork were damaged.

The school opened its new campus in 2017, after decades on Granville Island.
