Drug courier caught with P40.8-M shabu at NAIA

ANOTHER Filipino drug courier was caught on Friday morning at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 with six kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu she brought into the country from Siem Reap, Cambodia.

The passenger identified as Marie G. Ruzol, 28, arrived on board Cebu Pacific flight 5J258 at 4 a.m.

Ruzol claimed she was an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) and was on vacation.

Customs authorities said that Ruzol’s backpack was subjected to x-ray scanning as part of its border security where all passengers’ bags particularly those from “high-risk” countries such as Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar have to undergo x-ray security check.

Customs said her backpack was subjected to 100 percent physical examination and found whit chrystalline substance concealed in a tea foil pack.

It tested positive after the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) – NAIA led by Gerald Javier conducted a field test on the substance.

Similar shipments of shabu from Siem Reap were confiscated in  September 2019 at the NAIA Terminal 1 and inTterminal 3 in October.

Two were arrested — a Filipino and an Indonesian woman.
