Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for B.C.’s north coast and central interior.

“The combination of warm air from the approaching system overriding the cold outflow is producing freezing rain in valleys throughout the (north coast),” Environment Canada said of the region that includes Kitimat and Terrace. “Freezing rain will persist until Tuesday morning when the outflow weakens and temperatures rise above zero.”

Meanwhile, warm Pacific air combining with the Arctic air will produce favourable conditions for freezing rain in the central interior, which includes Prince George.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas,” said Environment Canada

The weather agency has also issued a special weather statement for the Okanagan Connector between Merritt to Kelowna.

“Freezing rain or ice pellets will develop over the central interior this afternoon and spread south this evening to include the South Thompson region and southwest interior highways,” the statement said.
