Vancouver police have issued a public warning about a high-risk sex offender who is living in the city.

Brian Abrosimo, 57, is a two-time offender serving a 14-year, four-month sentence for sexual assault, kidnapping, unlawful confinement, assault with a weapon, sexual assault with a weapon, and forcible confinement.

His sentence started in June 2006 and he is now on statutory release. A 10-year, long-term supervision order will start when his custodial sentence ends in October 2020.

In August 2004, Abrosimo abducted an 11-year-old girl off of a Langley street and sexually assaulted her in his van.

Earlier that summer he took a sex worker to a secluded spot in his car, handcuffed her, gagged her with a handkerchief and a plastic bag, and sexually assaulted her.

The VPD believes he still poses a risk to the safety of girls and women.

“The Vancouver Police Department does not want to be alarmist or strike fear into the community but we just feel, with his violent criminal past, people in Vancouver need to know that he will be residing (in the city),” said VPD spokesman Sgt. Aaron Roed.

Abrosimo is described as white, 5-feet-10 and 240 pounds, with grey shaved hair, hazel eyes, a grey moustache and a goatee.

As part of his statutory release, Abrosimo is ordered not to drink or use drugs, advise police of any relationships or friendships with women, not be in the presence of female children and stay away from places where kids are likely to congregate.

He also has a geographic restriction and isn’t allowed to travel to Abbotsford, Langley and Vancouver Island.

Roed said Abrosimo will be monitored by a parole supervisor and is wearing an electronic-monitoring ankle bracelet.

Anyone who sees, or knows of, Abrosimo violating any of these conditions is asked to call 911.
