THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) supported calls to suspend classes in Metro Manila during the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, its spokesman said on Wednesday.

“On our part we support the calls na magdeclare na lang ng (to just declare) class suspension,” Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya told reporters in a press briefing.

Malaya said this would alleviate the traffic problem in Metro Manila where majority of the sporting events would be held.

“That is one measure na [that] we support and we hope that the necessary decision is made,” Malaya said.

Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman, said this was being discussed in the organizing committee of the SEA Games.

As of posting time, Arellano Law School, St. Scholastica’s College, St. Paul College Pasig, and St. Pedro Poveda College have suspended classes.

The 30th SEA Games will run from November 30 to December 11. DARWIN PESCO
