Metro Vancouver bus drivers, mechanics and SeaBus workers are voting today on their tentative agreement with Coast Mountain Bus Company.

The 5,000 unionized transit workers, members of Unifor Locals 111 and 2200, hammered out a deal with the company in the early hours of Nov. 27 following 10 hours of negotiations, avoiding a full-scale bus and SeaBus shutdown.

Job action started Nov. 1 when mechanics refused to work overtime and the dispute escalated with others refusing overtime after talks collapsed Nov. 14, which lead to the cancellation of some bus service and SeaBus sailings.

The contract ratification vote is taking place today, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., at the Aria Convention Centre in Surrey.

Unifor expects to release the vote results around 8:45 p.m.

Details of the tentative agreement have yet to be disclosed.

Wages, benefits and working conditions were the key issues in the dispute.
