THE Manila Veterinary Inspection Board presented to Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso early Friday morning P10 million worth of peking duck that was smuggled into the country.

Dr. Nicanor “Nick” Santos, Jr. said the the meat, three tons of it, was seized on Thursday at the Minfei Yang Company along Kalakal St. corner Capulong St., Navotas City following a surveillance operation by the veterinary inspectors.

“We waited for the delivery van that came out from their company storage and followed it to Manila,” Santos said in a statement.

Santos said the delivery truck was cornered at the Honorio Lopez Avenue near Rodriguez St., Tondo at about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Domagoso reminded traders engaged in smuggling to refrain from doing illegal business in Manila.

Hindi ko kayo papayagan na sirain ang sikmura ng mga kababayan namin. Wag ninyo na dadalhin sa Maynila yan, sayang lang pera niyo (I will not allow you to destroy our residents. Don’t bring that to Manila, stop wasting your money),” Domagoso said.

Domagoso also instructed Santos to file appropriate charges against the owner who was identified as Jalin Yang.

The seized goods will be turned over to the National Meat Inspection Service. JOSHUA VERA CRUZ
