It was a violent weekend in Metro Vancouver, with one murder, a serious shooting and a SWAT team called to an East Vancouver home after a person barricaded themselves inside.

A man was found dead in a car parked inside Vancouver’s Marine Gateway complex on Saturday evening, marking the city’s second homicide of 2020.

According to Vancouver police, a passerby spotted the man dead inside a car that had been parked in the underground parkade of a Cineplex theatre at Marine Drive and Cambie Street around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. Investigators believe the death is a homicide.

After the discovery, police set up a checkpoint at the exit of the parkade, where each vehicle was stopped and checked before being allowed to leave the property.

Investigators say the incident is believed to be targeted, though no arrests have been made. Police haven’t commented on reports that gunfire was heard in the area around the time the man’s body was discovered.

Then, on Sunday evening a person barricaded themselves inside a home on East 18th Avenue and Main Street, leading to a full-scale response from the Vancouver Police Department’s SWAT team.

Also on Sunday, a person was reportedly shot several times at the Chevron gas station at Willingdon Avenue and Canada Way.

Anyone with information about the Vancouver homicide is asked to contact investigators at 604-717-2500 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
