Roads have reopened and people are allowed to return to buildings that earlier were evacuated in Surrey Wednesday morning after a gas leak.

RCMP say reports came in around 10 a.m. about the leak in the area of 64th Avenue and 120th Street, which is believed to have started in a restaurant.

Shortly before noon, the RCMP said the gas leak had been dealt with and it was safe for the public to return.

The source of the leak was identified as originating from a rooftop heating, ventilation and air-conditioning unit located on a restaurant in the 6300-block of 64 Avenue.
