AS President Rodrigo Duterte continued his tirades against the United States (US), his daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is in Washington D.C. for a leadership program sponsored by the State Department.

In a Facebook post by the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C., it said that Manila’s Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez, along with embassy personnel, welcomed Duterte-Carpio and Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco who has been participating in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) from January 21-28.

“Strong Cities, Strong Partnerships: A Comprehensive Approach to Preventing Terrorism in Southeast Asia” is the theme of the IVLP.

The East Asia Pacific Bureau of the US State Department posted on Twitter that Duterte-Carpio and Climaco met with their US counterparts during the IVLP exchange, which was focused on “working with allies to prevent counter terrorism.”

When sought for comment, Duterte-Carpio confirmed the program to The Manila Times and that aside from Washington D.C., the event would also be held in Los Angeles.

Duterte-Carpio’s attendance to the IVLP comes amid her father’s order to terminate the Philippine-US Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) after the US visa of Sen. Ronald de la Rosa, a staunch ally and former Philippine National police chief, was revoked for his participation in Duterte’s drug war. DEMPSEY REYES
