PNP withdraws 2,000 policemen from Taal-affected areas

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday announced the pullout of some 2,000 policemen from the areas affected by the eruption of Taal volcano.

“Dalawang libo ang ating na-pull out after two weeks of deployment sa Batangas [We pulled out 2,000 personnel after their deployment for two weeks in Batangas],” Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, PNP spokesman, told reporters in a press briefing.

Banac said that all members of the Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF) of the PNP were advised to visit the PNP General Hospital to undergo check up for any sign of respiratory ailment.

However, local police units and the Police Regional Office (PRO) 4-A of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (Calabarzon) Search and Rescue unit would continue to provide security and assistance in relief operations, Banac said. DARWIN PESCO
