Australia’s Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ intense and raging brand of rock music has been blowing audiences away and winning fans for 37 years. The group, fronted by the former lead vocalist of the Birthday Party, has released seventeen albums to date, with its last three being some of the best reviewed of the group’s entire career.

Ghosteen, released in 2019, completed a trilogy that began with 2013’s passionate Push the Sky Away and 2016’s soul-bearing Skeleton Key.

All three releases are imbued with pain and tragedy. In 2016, Cave lost his son Arthur after he fell from the Ovingdean Gap near Brighton, England. In 2017, longtime Bad Seeds keyboardist Conway Savage died from a brain tumour. The double-album Ghosteen is dedicated to Savage and showcases some of the most spiritual lyrics of the literate poet/author’s career.

Approaching writing the new album, Cave is on record stating he’ “found an authentic way to write beyond the trauma.”

It is also the most ambient and electronic album from a group known for crafting crashing textures with non-digital instruments. The 11-track release drew rave reviews across almost all media, winding up on most rock critics’ best of 2019 lists. Cave’s most recent appearance in B.C. was at the Massey Theatre in New Westminster on October 10, for one of the Conversations With Nick Cave: An Evening of Talk & Music tour dates.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds tickets go on sale Feb. 21, 10 a.m. at Ticketleader.ca.
