A former policewoman was arrested in an entrapment operation in Pasay City for alleged robbery-extortion.

Col. Ronald Lee, Philippine National Police – Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) director, identified the suspect as former SSg Beverly Banan, who was arrested on Monday afternoon.

According to the PNP, the suspect demanded from P 40,000 to P 80,000 from an undercover IMEG officer posing as a policeman seeking transfer to another unit.

The suspect was arrested in a fast food chain after receiving the P49,000 money topped by a marked P1,000 bill from the operative.

The operation was also backed by a team from the PNP Special Action Force and other units.

Recovered from Banan were the payoff money, three cellphones, and PNP documents related to the transfer of policemen to other units.

The suspect is now under the custody of PNP-IMEG in Camp Crame facing charges for robbery-extortion.

The arrest comes after Police Chief General Archie Francisco Gamboa issued a series of directives to validate the alleged involvement of some PNP personnel in extortion activities after receiving information regarding anomalies in the recruitment process, the reassignment and promotion of PNP personnel.  DARWIN PESCO
