Honda denies govt excise tax behind closure of factory in Laguna

THE decision to close a factory in Sta. Rosa, Laguna by Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) has nothing to do with the government’s imposition of excise tax, its spokesman said.
Louie Soriano issued the statement on Tuesday during an inquiry by the House of Representatives’ Committee on Labor and Employment.
“Basically this is a strategy of Honda company. It’s not the decision of Honda Cars Philippines to close the…factory but it’s a global decision, Sir,” Soriano said.
He also said that the decision “has nothing to do with the government policy or the labor union. It has nothing to do with excise tax.”
Soriano said that “basically the reason for that is because of the, as explained a while ago, it’s because of the efficient allocation and utilization of the resources…” REINA C. TOLENTINO
