Dear friends and future students,

At Kwantlen Polytechnic University, we are committed to maintaining pathways for all learners to discover what is possible with a polytechnic education. With five campuses located in Surrey, Richmond, and Langley, KPU offers flexible learning options, small class sizes, and a broad range of academic and student support services. In our Faculty of Academic and Career Advancement, students can seize the opportunity to take university courses at advanced levels while upgrading their skills to ensure success in their education and their career.

This month, we’ve all been challenged to adapt to the unprecedented restrictions placed upon us by the COVID-19 pandemic. While our physical offices are currently closed for in-person visits, we want to assure prospective students that the Future Students’ Office at KPU remains fully operational by telephone, email, and through various online platforms. We are here to help and are eager to speak with you!

Newcomers to Canada may be particularly interested in the following two programs:

English Language Studies

KPU’s English Language Studies (ELST) department welcomes newcomers and international students. If English is not your first language and you need to improve your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, our courses will help you. ELS students in Levels 2 and 3 are eligible to take university courses as well! To see the full list of Pathway University courses, please visit kpu.ca/pathway

Applications to ELST are still open for the Fall 2020 semester (with classes starting in September), and interested students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, and then sign up for an English Language Studies test, or send us your IELTS or TOEFL scores. Please note that, at present, testing at KPU will not be possible until social distancing regulations are lifted. Applicants should keep an eye on kpu.ca/testing for updates on when testing will be resumed. If you had previously booked an ELST assessment, your appointment has been automatically rescheduled; if you would prefer to cancel, please contact testing@kpu.ca.

Academic and Career Preparation

The department of Academic and Career Preparation (ACP) is dedicated to helping students upgrade their English, Math, or Science skills in order to meet university prerequisites. Applications are open for ACP programs and online courses for May (including ENGQ 1089, ENGQ 1091, ENGQ 1099, and ENGQ 1092) are currently available; however, ACP testing is not available at this time, and we do not know for certain when it will resume. If you are able to plan for a September start, applying to the Fall 2020 intake is likely your most realistic timeline.
