The Philippine Ports Authority on Friday gave port operators and tenants a 30-day grace period on rental and concession fees on account of the the coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. In a statement, the state-run port agency said the payment extension did not demand any interest, penalties and other charges. “This initiative is also part of the ‘Bayanihan sa Pantalan’ as it aims to give port users and other stakeholders much-needed relief while the country continues with its struggle [with] Covid-19,” PPA General Manager Jay Santiago said, adding this would not affect his agency’s revenue generation. To boost treatment capacity, the government has started using the Eva Macapagal Super Terminal in Manila to accept Covid-19 patients. The terminal has been converted into a medical facility, which has 211 cubicles to accommodate patients with mild, advanced, and severe cases of the disease.
