As provinces and territories across the country lift COVID-19 restrictions, individuals become responsible for assessing your own risk of gathering with others.

But evaluating your personal risk is not so simple. It’s not a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’, ‘safe’ or ‘unsafe’ answer. There are many factors to consider such as your personal health status, vaccination status, where and how you plan to visit, and more.

Two free online tools can help assess your risk of exposure to COVID-19 and provide you with current public health guidance.

My COVID-19 Visit Risk Calculator asks a short series of questions you can complete in three minutes. The My COVID-19 Visit Risk Decision Aid, which takes ten minutes to complete, provides a more detailed assessment of potential COVID-19 exposure risks.

These tools can help you make best possible decisions about how to lower your risk of getting COVID-19, while also contributing to the safety of all.

The tool, created by the National Institute on Ageing (NIA) in collaboration with leading public health and infectious disease experts, was funded in part by the Government of Canada. The tool has become increasingly important for groups who are at higher risk of infection, hospitalization and mortality due to COVID-19, including older adults.
