MANILA, Philippines — Teachers who served as members of the Electoral Boards (EBs) during the May 12 polls are getting an additional P1,000 compensation, according to the Commission on Elections.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia said the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) granted their request for additional compensation for EB members and allotted P758,459,000 for the increase.

“A modest P1,000 additional compensation, tax-free or net of tax, for each of the 758,549 individuals who selflessly served our nation during every electoral exercise,” Garcia said.

The honoraria rates for EB chairperson has already been increased to P12,000 from P10,000, while the pay for the EB poll clerk and the third member was raised to P11,000 from P9,000.

Voters not only trooped to polling precincts, but also to malls.
