DOLE to build workers rehabilitation center complex

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said on Friday that it will build a rehabilitation center complex for workers who have experienced occupational hazards.

This is part of its Labor Day celebrations, the DOLE said.

“Magkakaroon po tayo ng signing of memorandum of understanding […] ng anim na partido, na limang national government agency at isang local government agency. Ito po ay tungkol sa pagtatayo ng tinatawag nating workers rehabilitation center complex,” DOLE Undersecretary Benjo Benavidez said.

(We will have a signing of a memorandum of understanding […] among six parties, five national government agencies and a local government agency. This is for the building of what we call a workers rehabilitation center complex.)

The official added that the rehabilitation center complex will assist victims of work-related accidents or injuries for them to be able to work again.

“Ito po ay tutugon sa ating mga kababayang manggagawa na nakaranas ng work-related accidents or injuries. Gusto po natin na kahit po nakaranas sila ng aksidente o nabalian po sila, o nawalan ng isang bahagi ng katawan, gusto po namin silang makabalik bilang manggagawa,” he added.

(This will be the response for our fellow countrymen workers who have experienced work-related accidents or injuries. We want them to be able to work again even if they have experienced accidents.)

Benavidez said that the center complex will be built in Tanay, Rizal.

Meanwhile, the other signatories to the memorandum of understanding are the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the local government of Tanay, Rizal, Benavidez said.
