MANILA, Philippines — Some oil companies are hitting pause on this week’s scheduled fuel price hikes in provinces hit hard by the combined impact of tropical cyclones and monsoon rains.
In separate advisories, Seaoil, Petron, Jetti and Shell announced per-liter price hikes of P0.60 for diesel and P0.40 for kerosene starting today.
In response to the government’s request, however, these fuel retailers would postpone the implementation of the price adjustments in select areas to provide temporary relief to motorists.
In particular, Jetti would defer the industry price increase in Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Pampanga, Bataan, Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan, Oriental Mindoro and Negros Occidental.
Petron would suspend the diesel price hike in La Union, Ilocos Sur, Pampanga and portions of Pangasinan, including Basista, San Carlos, Calasiao, Malasiqui, Mangatarem, Mangaldan and Umingan.
For Shell, a diesel price freeze would be implemented in La Union, Ilocos Sur, Dagupan and select areas in Pangasinan such as Dagupan, Alaminos, Mangaldan, Calasiao, Malasiqui, Bayambang, San Fabian and Binmaley.
Seaoil, meanwhile, would defer diesel price adjustments in provinces across the Ilocos region and Cagayan Valley.
Effective today, major oil firms are also set to implement a rollback of P0.10 per liter for gasoline prices.
“The wild ride in oil prices was largely driven by geopolitical events and uncertainty surrounding US trade policies,” according to the Department of Energy.
