House adopts resolution expressing condolences to Rep. Gato’s family

MANILA — The House of Representatives adopted on Tuesday a resolution expressing the lower chamber’s profound condolences to the family of Batanes Lone District Representative Ciriaco Gato Jr. following the lawmaker’s passing at the age of 66. 

According to House Resolution 1470, this was not only a loss of a public servant, but also of a “beloved son of the Province of Batanes who devoted his life, his profession, and his public service to the welfare of his fellow Ivatans.” 

“Before dedicating his time and work to government service, Honorable Gato distinguished himself as a devoted otolaryngologist in various public and private hospitals where he rendered compassionate care to the people of Batanes and undertook self‑initiated medical missions across its communities,” the resolution introduced by House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III, House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos and House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan reads.

A prayer was offered for Gato during the plenary session on Monday as Misamis Oriental 2nd District Representative Yevgeny Emano mentioned the Batanes congressman’s death.
