Palace declares Nov. 16-18 as special non-working days in Metro Manila for ASEAN Summit

Jervis Manahan, ABS-CBN NewsMANILA — Malacañang declared November 16 to 18, 2026 as special non-working days in Metro Manila to make way for the country’s hosting of the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits.
The announcement was made via Proclamation No. 1447, signed by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto on September 17 and released on September 22.
Recto said the declaration is “necessary” to “alleviate traffic and to allow the host country to secure the safety of participants in the said event.”
Leaders from the 11-member states as well as dialogue partners around the world are expected to converge in Manila in November for the high-level summit.
The Philippines is this year’s ASEAN Chair.
