EXCLUSIVE: Angelique Manto and David Guison admit having a ‘fair share of pressure’ over pregnancy talks after wedding
Content creators and newlyweds Angelique Manto-Guison and David Guison opened about their married life, including the subtle changes they have experienced as a couple and the pressure that comes with questions about having a baby.
The couple first exchanged vows on May 19 at an intimate ceremony at Sine Pop in Cubao, Quezon City, followed by a bigger church wedding days later.
In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN during Sony Philippines’ Beyond The Beat event, Angelique and David shared some of the changes and discoveries they had about each other now that they are officially husband and wife.
“Aside from the label that we’re now legally and officially together for the rest of our lives, I think it’s like restarting in a sense na honeymoon stage ulit, it’s like we get kilig na ‘Oh my gosh, asawa ko na ‘to! I’m really going to spend the rest of my life with this guy!'” the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 second runner-up candidly said.
For Angelique, marriage has also meant learning to approach decisions differently, now that they are building a future together.
“I think it’s the subtle change of transitioning into making decisions individually before but now making decisions together knowing that it’s our future involved,” Angelique emphasized.
David, meanwhile, expressed one of the things he has come to appreciate most about Angelique as his wife.
“She’s the perfect definition of ‘stillness.’ Ako kasi I’m always someone who wants to move,” he said, describing himself as the more restless one in their relationship who is always hyped up to do different things,” he maintained. “Siya, she’s just very still…Parang na-inspire ako doon [kasi] I sometimes forget how to live and just be in the moment.”
Their wedding made headlines in May, particularly because of the couple’s distinct fashion choices. The pair stepped away from the conventional wedding setup with their monochromatic looks, which many netizens described as “aesthetic” and reflective of their personal style.
For David, the preparations leading up to the wedding became one of the highlights of their journey as a couple before officially becoming husband and wife.
“And with the wedding planning, parang that was the first challenge [and] bonding namin as a couple before we step into marriage. It’s teamwork. So that really came with the vision that we had together, it’s the perfect collaboration. And parang, I know madali pa ‘yung wedding na ‘yun and wala pa ‘yun sa mga pagdadaanan namin in the future pero we were off to a good start nung kinasal kami,” he expressed.
Now four months into their marriage, Angelique and David lightheartedly admitted that they also have a “fair share of pressure” when it comes to conversations about having a baby.
“I think we [have] had our fair share of pressure sa ganiyan lalo na since we’re newly married,” Angelique said when asked if they have been hearing inquiries about it. “Of course, people would think what’s the next step — it’s having a kid, having our own family. But we’d like to take it one step at a time. We’d like to enjoy our married life.”
Angelique emphasized that they want to make sure they are ready before taking on the responsibility of raising a child.
“I’d like to enjoy my husband, the same way that I think he would like to enjoy having me as his wife. ‘Yung parang you don’t get to jump into something as big as a responsibility of having a kid when you’re not fully prepared for it.”
“We’re preparing ourselves, establishing our rhythm as a married couple, and finding our way through there eventually,” she maintained.
