DPWH upgrades sections of roads in Isabela, Quirino

Three road sections in Isabela and Quirino have been upgraded to improve mobility in the provinces, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.

Road shoulders of Junction National-Sta. Victoria Road in Ilagan City, Isabela have been paved, according to the DPWH– Isabela First District Engineering Office.

About 1.8 kilometer portion of the road was concreted, according to District Engineer Evelyn Costales. Three meters on the both sides of the road have been paved.

Costales said that the newly-paved road shoulders will help hasten traffic flow, making government programs and services more accessible to the residents.

“This will also ease the transport of agricultural products from the locality to the commercial centers of the City of Ilagan,” she added.

A total of P20,424,014 was spent to finish the project which started on June 6, 2018.

Also, two road sections in the boundary of Quirino and Isabela underwent asphalt overlay as part of the preventive maintenance to preserve road condition, the department said.

The road sections were located on Junction Managdingay-Saguday-Isabela Boundary Road (2.27 kilometers) and on Cordon-Maddela-Aurora Boundary Road(3.93 kilometers).

The twin asphalt overlay projects cost P78 million and P69.7 million, respectively.

According to District Engineer Marifel Andes, the drainage structures and pavement markings of the roads were also improved.

She said that asphalt paving was a measure to prevent fast deterioration of the road sections.
