Kim Chiu’s sister Lakam posts bail in qualified theft case

MANILA – Kim Chiu’s sister Lakambini posted bail via a surety bond at a Quezon City Court on Thursday, September 24. 

The court set her bail at P5.6 million.

As confirmed by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), she was released from the custody of the Quezon City Jail Female Dormitory just past 5:30 p.m.

During her arraignment, Lakambini attended via video conferencing, as confirmed by her legal counsel, Atty. Dominic Solis. 

“Our client entered the plea of not guilty to the charges of qualified theft via video conferencing,” said Solis

He added: “Our client is holding up quite well considering the circumstances.”

Meanwhile, Kim attended in person, accompanied by her lawyers. 

Although Kim did not grant a media interview, she issued a statement through her legal counsel expressing her eagerness to pursue the charges against Lakam and seek justice. 

“Our clients are dedicated to pursue the cases against Lakam Chiu. We are precluded by the courts to make comments because of the subjudice rule. For now, the arraignment was concluded and the cases will continue to be heard by the court,” said Atty. Margrein Archernar M. Gregana, counsel for HOLB-PH/Ms. Kimberly Chiu.

Kim’s camp will have to follow due process for their next legal steps.

“Naniniwala ang HOLB at si Kim Chiu sa justice system natin at pinapaubaya niya ito na dadaanan sa tamang proseso para makamit ang hustisya,” said Atty. Gregana.

Lakam is facing 124 counts of qualified theft involving approximately P44.4 million in alleged financial discrepancies.
