Duterte hopes for poll winners’ help in fulfilling campaign promise

By Argyll Cyrus Geducos

President Duterte is hoping that those who will win in the upcoming May 2019 elections will help him in his fight against illegal drugs, corruption in government, and criminality.

In a speech, Duterte said that he will never back down from the promise he made during his campaign for the presidency in 2016. He, however, said he needs people who can help in accomplishing his goals.

Duterte appealed to the public to consider his 11 senatorial bets and shun supporting candidates who had lackluster performance in the past.

“I’m trying to impress you with people who I think na mahal nila ang bayan at magtatrabaho at hindi magyabang at magsuplada (love their country and will work without being arrogant),” he said in a speech in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.

“Iyon ang ginagawa ng naiwan diyan eh. Walang ginawa kung hindi mag-arte, akala mo naman marunong (The others don’t know anything but act smart when they are not),” he added.

He also hit his critics, particularly the allies of the previous administration for finding fault in his actions when they did nothing right during their term.

“Sa panahon nila puro mali naman p* i ginawa nila (During their time all they did were the wrong things),” he said, referring to them as hypocrites.

Duterte is officially campaigning for 11 senatorial candidates, five of whom come from his party PDP-Laban.

The five candidates from PDP-Laban are Zajid Mangudadatu, Ronald Dela Rosa, Christopher Go, Koko Pimentel, and Francis Tolentino. The other six are Cynthia Villar, Sonny Angara, JV Ejercito, Imee Marcos, Pia Cayetano, and Freddie Aguilar.

Duterte earlier revealed that he started forming his senatorial slate since last year but acted nonchalant about it. He also said there is no problem if he and daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio are supporting different sets of candidates. #MatalinongBoto2019
