Thirty-four candidates for senator were already sent notices by the Commission on Elections regarding their illegally placed campaign materials.
Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon revealed this in an interview with GMA7.
“About 34 candidates for senator ang napadalhan na notices ng election officers
na tanggalin nila yung kanilang illegally located posters,” she said.
“They have three days to remove them otherwise it becomes an election offense,” added Guanzon.
The poll body earlier gave national candidates a three day grace period to take down their prohibited campaign materials.
“We are giving them a grace period of about three days, which will expire on Thursday [February 14), to take down the materials that they already have out,” Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said Wednesday.
Today (Friday), the Comelec will already start documenting unlawful campaign materials.
“We will be documenting materials that are still in place. And once we completed our documentation, that’s when we will start taking legal action against those violators,” said Jimenez.
In an advisory, the poll body said the monitoring of election propaganda installed in public places in relation to the May 13 midterm polls will start with a motorcade in front of the Comelec office in Intramuros, Manila at 9 a.m.
