MIREIA Dining, borderless cuisine by Chef Mark DeeThe first-ever Metro Supper Club took place at the hippest spot in town—MIREIA Dining along Jupiter in Makati. What was once a private dining experience at home finds its new space at the Levanto Building in Makati, easily making it to foodies’ must-visit spots in the metro.
The Metro Supper Club brings together friends of Metro, tastemakers, industry partners, and key opinion leaders for a gastronomic dining experience while catching up on relevant conversations. It’s also our way of celebrating friendships and expressing gratitude for support on future projects and collaborations. The evening was set: the beautiful private room at MIREIA was tastefully decorated with minimal floral arrangements, drinks of choice, and a warmly lit ambience.
Guests in attendance were METRO Head Chris Lopez, Metro Society Editor-in-Chief and EIC On the Move Host Raul Manzano, Metro Channel Head Lala Ventura, actor and Metro Channel Host Edu Manzano, Tech CEO Ann Cuisia, Visions & Expressions President Ginggay Joven-dela Merced, Eventologist and Host Tim Yap, DJ/Podcaster/Entrepreneur Tony Bueno, Socialite Keren Pascual, Writer and Socialite Leah Puyat, and Metro Channel Host and Interior Designer Anton Barretto.
The very first Metro Supper ClubThe evening’s highlight wasn’t just the interesting conversations around our very own New York Fashion Week darling Alex Eala, the smart and stunning Miss World Philippines Asia Rose Simpson, or the benefits of carnivore diets, but also the stunning lineup of dishes Chef Mark Dee showcased. With every dish he shared, Chef Mark emphasized that these current favorites didn’t just come out of thin air. These were pandemic experiments that he and his team perfected over the years, and now they’re the bestselling dishes on their menu. Mireia, named after his beloved 3-year-old daughter, truly is a beautiful gift not just to their family, but to us all.
Allow us to take you back on the gastronomic tasting journey we had at MIREIA…
Starters consisted of insanely tasty bites, each with a distinct flavor that will make you come back for more. Don’t be fooled by their tiny sizes—they pack a punch in terms of volume and seriously whet your appetite for what’s to come. There was the Scallop Tartelette, a fresh seafood-forward bite that spells luxury with every bite. The Oyster Taco was a generous bite that consists of a crunchy oyster wrapped in a scallion pancake and XO sauce, and last but definitely not least in taste was the Unagi Crispy Rice. This bite had all the things we love in a dish—perfectly cut eel tare, crispy rice, ikura (red caviar), and sansho pepper.
Clockwise: Unagi Crispy Rice, Oyster Taco, and Scallop TarteletteOur tummies were just getting warmed up when a new slew of stunning dishes landed on our table—the Balinese Lamb Ribs with Poppadum, Wagyu Truffle Rice, and the Ibérico Secreto. Each one had a richness to it that a few bites would satisfy. These dishes are meant to be shared, so it was fun to see the animated reactions of our guests as each one took a bite. The Balinese Lamb Ribs were tender and marinated to perfection, with hummus and crispy poppadum to complete each bite. For rice lovers, a claypot-looking dish served a deeply satisfying Wagyu Truffle Rice that had premium yakiniku beef and crispy-edged beef oxtail. The flavors in this one are something you’d crave for days to come. Another meat dish to watch out for is the Ibérico Secreto, lean cuts of tender pork with parsnip, red cabbage, and capsicum. We didn’t tap out just yet, as there were more mains to come.
Clockwise: Balinese Lamb Ribs and poppadum (for the lamb ribs), Wagyu Truffle Rice, and Ibérico SecretoNext on the lineup was the indulgent Duck Frites: one of the restaurant’s signature dishes where premium French duck breast is cooked sous vide to a perfect medium-rare, seared to achieve exceptionally crispy skin, and served with a generous side of duck fat fries, fresh thyme, and a green peppercorn sauce. We could not stop munching on the fries, and no, we didn’t feel guilty! For those who love fish, we recommend the Miso Cod, a flaky, buttery white fish glazed in a sweet-savory miso marinade. It tasted “clean”, but was definitely not devoid of flavor.
Duck Frites and Miso CodWhile we were getting quite full, we could not pass on the dish that made Mireia famous in the first place: the Crab Tomato Pasta and a plate of yummy Shrimp Wontons. The Shrimp Wontons, reminiscent of Thai flavors, are made up of generous crunchy tiger prawns and a rich seafood-forward sauce. The main event, the Crab Pasta, is a specialty that features crunchy soft-shell crab, yuzukosho (a Japanese citrus chili paste), with breadcrumbs over al dente spaghetti noodles. This was a feast for the palate!
Shrimp Wontons and Crab PastaNo tasting menu is complete without a sweet ending, and we were treated to four! There was the Chocolate Fondant, a molten chocolate center enhanced with caramel, strawberry ice cream, and a unique local touch of salty asin tultul. The Pistachio Tiramisu, a lighter, nuttier take on an Italian classic dessert, the Cheesecake Tart with Earl Grey Cream, a rich and creamy bite; and the comforting Dark Chocolate Chunk Cookies & Horchata, the restaurant’s take on milk and cookies. Theirs is a batch of freshly baked cookies served with a glass of homemade horchata topped with freshly grated nutmeg.
