Assumption High School Batch ’86 Teams Up with Leon Gallery for an Upcoming Charity Art Exhibition

Imagine art from compassionate hearts.

Assumption High School (AC HS) Batch 1986 is partnering with Leon Gallery for a milestone fundraising art exhibition called “The Power of Plaid: AC HS ’86 Art Exhibit” which is set to run from October 15 to 30, 2026 at the premier art auction house in Legazpi Village, Makati City.

The event also marks AC HS Batch ‘86’s 40th Ruby Anniversary and will be celebrated by bringing together shared heritage, masterful artworks, and the common desire to serve the underprivileged. Proceeds from the art exhibit will support the Assumption Mission Schools, with urgent help earmarked for sister institution Assumpta Technical School in San Simon, Pampanga—an area battered by extreme weather conditions and persistent flooding.

Visitors and guests of “The Power of Plaid” can expect diverse works of art using oil, mixed media, and other creative expressions featuring the works of volunteer participating artists including Karen Fabie-Concepcion, a realist whose works celebrate nature, color and travel; Joanna Ongpin-Duarte, whose formative themes explore history, ancestry, and Filipino identity; Jia Santos-Estrella, known for mixed-media works blending oil painting, found objects, design and memory; Mikko Sison, whose expressive interior scenes capture emotional domestic spaces; Maridee Rodriguez, whose works are inspired by optimistic, paradise-inspired visions of nature and every day life; Anthony Feliciano, who specializes in contemporary seascape compositions; Nika Poe-Llamanzares, whose style evokes vibrant, imaginative visual art pieces; and Becky Lopez-Ledesma, who is set to make her public debut as a visual artist and whose style presents impressionist landscapes in oil. Contributing artists Laura Nakpil and Katie Rojas-Taňega will also share their works for the cause.

“The idea came from wanting to create a fundraiser that celebrates our Batch ’86 bond, creativity, and the Assumption spirit of giving back. The beneficiaries are our Assumption Mission Schools, so we felt an art exhibit would be a beautiful way to bring together creativity and purpose. We are especially grateful to our batchmate Jia Santos-Estrella of J. Studio, whose generosity and enthusiasm were instrumental in bringing the idea to life and making this collaboration possible,” AC HS Batch ’86 President Malu Gamboa-Lindo said.

The alumnae are equally grateful for the support they received from event partner Leon Gallery.

“We couldn’t have asked for a more meaningful partner than León Gallery and its founder Jaime Ponce de Leon. Jaime is one of the most respected figures in the Philippine art community, known for his discerning eye, his deep appreciation of Filipino art and heritage, and his commitment to bringing important Philippine works and artists to a wider audience. For Jaime and León Gallery to open their doors to our Batch ’86 initiative gives our artists a wonderful and respected platform, but more importantly, it lends their support to the purpose behind the exhibit—helping our Assumption Mission Schools. We are deeply grateful to Jaime for believing in what we are trying to accomplish,” Gamboa-Lindo added, clearly thankful for the important participation of the art auction house.

The exhibit highlights works from participating artists, a group featuring the batchmates, extended family members, and guest collaborators.

Lopez-Ledesma, one of the participating artists and a member of the AC HS Batch ‘86, is marking a personal milestone in this event. After years of creating art privately, she is stepping up and stepping forward publicly for this charity event.

“This art exhibit by the group is an answered prayer,” Lopez-Ledesma shared. “My work aims to evoke a sense of calm, peace, romance, and beauty. To share these art pieces alongside friends from Assumption days and to have every purchase extend real assistance to our mission schools makes this debut deeply meaningful.”
