Carlos Yulo and Chloe San Jose Are Engaged! Here’s How the Proposal Unfolded

Filipino Olympic gymnast Carlos Yulo and content creator/recording artist Chloe San Jose just revealed that they got engaged nine months ago. The surprising announcement comes days after Carlos’ golden moment and victory at the 20th Asian Games. 

Sharing a snippet from when Carlos proposed to Chloe, the athlete and Pinoy pride wrote on Instagram, “9 months ago… She said ‘Yes.’ And all I can say and all I can feel, is that I am truly blessed. Blessed to love you.
Blessed to be loved by you.
Blessed to have you as my fiancé and, soon, as my forever.”

Carlos went on to share a heartfelt message for his fiancée, with whom he shared many ups and downs throughout their relationship: “Mahal ko, pangako kong aalagaan, mamahalin, at poprotektahan kita sa lahat ng panahon. Sa hirap at ginhawa, sa saya at pagsubok, pipiliin kita araw-araw. At sa biyaya ng Diyos, makakasama kita hanggang sa buhay na walang hanggan.”

He also reflected on how grateful they both are to God for blessing them and guiding their relationship. “We’re so grateful that the Lord has always been with us through everything that happens in our lives, sa lahat ng pagsubok, saya, at bawat biyayang dumarating sa amin,” Carlos shared. “Thank You, Lord, for writing our story so beautifully and for being with us every step of the way. Here’s to our love, our faith, and forever together.”

In a vlog on Chloe’s YouTube channel, the couple shared all the details of their engagement, their “little secret” since December 18, 2025, which took place at a rental villa in Tagaytay called Raffi’s Way.

“For nine months, we’ve been treasuring this beautiful secret between us, quietly smiling to ourselves and taking our time to cherish it, knowing that one day we’d finally share it with the world,” Chloe shared on Instagram. 

In the video by NicePrint Photo, Carlos shared that he found it challenging to prepare for the proposal because Chloe knew her schedule. But with the help of their family, friends, and a team of expert suppliers, he was able to pull it off. 

As it turns out, Chloe thought they were going to attend a Christmas party organized by their good friend, Ferdi Salvador. “I really didn’t think of it as anything. Then, ‘yung cousin ko, sabi niya, ‘Uy, ang ganda ng lights.’ Then when I heard that, dun pa lang nag-ano sa’kin na… ‘Oh my god, I know what this is!”

The whole garden of the villa was dressed up with pastel blooms and lights of all sorts—from fairy lights to votive candles—by event styling master Gideon Hermosa. As they were making their way down to the pool area, Chloe was already sure of what was about to happen. “I know it, Baba!” By the pool, a huge “Will You Marry Me?” sign gave away what the night was for and became the perfect backdrop for the newly engaged couple. 

As they continued to make their way down a decorated arched platform, Carlos told Chloe that he planned the proposal for two and a half months. “I couldn’t sleep at all,” he said. Chloe couldn’t believe how Carlos organized the proposal, considering they had just returned from his training in Japan. 

Against the pitch-black sky, their love for each other glowed brilliantly. “Ipinagdasal ko ang araw na ito,” Carlos told Chloe. By the time Carlos got down on one knee and pulled from his pocket the ring box, Chloe was in disbelief and couldn’t stop giggling. He showed her the ring with a huge gemstone sitting on a round set of brilliant diamonds, and her reaction was “Oh my god!” 

He asked, “Will you marry me?” 

“Is this real?,” she asked back. 

“It’s real,” he told her. “I’ll ask you again. ‘Chloe Anjeleigh San Jose, will you marry me?'”

This time, she did not let a second pass by to reply, “Yes! Of course, I’ll marry you.”

He put the ring on her. “It fits,” she said with a wide smile. 

Then they sealed the moment with a kiss. 

But just when Chloe thought that was that, their friend, Ferdi, approached them and handed Carlos another ring box. Confused, Chloe said, “Huh?” 

In an interview clip, Carlos then shared, “Si Chloe talaga ‘yung tumulong sa akin para magkaroon po ng two gold medals sa Olympics. And para sa akin, siya ‘yung gold medal ng puso ko. So, dalawang engagement rings ‘yung binigay ko sa kanya.”

Carlos got down on one knee again and told Chloe, “Dahil tinulungan mo akong maabot ‘yung pangarap ko… sobrang mahal na mahal kita, mahal. It’s another ring for you.”

Chloe was dumbfounded and told him, “Baba, so much na.”

“Hindi siya traditional. Maybe ako lang ‘yung gumawa nito. Pero, I’m really grateful,” he told her before putting the second ring, a heart-shaped gemstone surrounded by diamonds, on her right ring finger.

They kissed, and their loved ones present at the venue, witnessing this milestone, all cheered for them.

“I’m just so excited for what’s to come for us next,” Chloe said in a post-engagement interview with NicePrint Photo. 

Chloe and Carlos officially became a couple in 2020. Since it was the pandemic, their relationship began through online interactions until they finally met in person in May 2022 at the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, where Carlos competed. The couple has figured in controversies due to a long-standing private family rift involving Carlos’ mother, but through all the issues they faced, the two stayed together and stood by each other. 

“It started with a simple ‘Hi, I’m a fan po.’ Neither of us could have known where that little message would take us. And from there, life became a collection of airports, competitions, hotel rooms, long training days, little adventures, big dreams, and countless moments in between,” Chloe shared. 

Sharing photos from this milestone in their relationship, she continued her social media post with a message for Carlos: “I got to watch you chase your dreams, and you let me be beside you through the biggest moments of your life. We grew up together. We learned together. We fought for each other, protected each other, supported each other, and built a life of our own. Through everything, God has continued to guide us, protect us, and give us the strength to keep going. And looking back now, I’m grateful even for the chapters that weren’t easy, because they brought us here.”

Nine months ago, they committed to taking their relationship to the next level, and now they’re ready to share that part of their personal lives with everyone as they make their engagement Instagram-official.
