BTS kicked off its winning streak with the Best K-pop award for their latest single, “SWIM,” further extending their record as the most-awarded artist in the category’s history. With four wins and five nominations to date, the group also holds the record for the most nominations in the category.

This year, BTS emerged victorious against fellow K-pop acts BLACKPINK with “Jump,” CORTIS with “RedRed,” KATSEYE with “Pinky Up,” LE SSERAFIM featuring J-Hope with “Spaghetti,” and Lisa featuring Kentaro Sakaguchi with “Dream.”

Following their Best K-pop win, BTS added another trophy to their collection as they took home the Best Group award. First introduced as Best Group Video at the inaugural MTV Video Music Awards in 1984, the category has since become another milestone in the group’s VMA history.

BTS holds the record for the most wins in the category, with five awards, and remains the only act to have won it for four consecutive years, from 2019 to 2022. This year, the K-pop supergroup emerged victorious against fellow nominees BLACKPINK, CORTIS, FLO, Fuerza Regida, Geese, KATSEYE, and Twenty One Pilots.

BTS’ highly anticipated comeback this year marked a major milestone for the group following their hiatus to fulfill their mandatory military service. Their return, led by the single “SWIM” and their album Arirang, made waves across the music industry, breaking records and generating excitement among fans worldwide.

Adding to their successful comeback, BTS took home one of the night’s most coveted honors, Song of the Year, a category first introduced at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards.

Marking their first win in the category, BTS emerged victorious against some of the year’s biggest hits, including Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas,” HUNTR/X’s “Golden,” Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Bring Your Love,” Olivia Dean’s “Man I Need,” PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson’s “Stateside,” and RAYE’s “Where Is My Husband!”
