Asian-American Brand Nostalgia Reimagines the Barong as a Streetwear Staple

Nostalgia has always been more than a feeling. The word itself embodies the way of holding on to family, culture, and memories while making space for something entirely new.

That idea sits at the heart of Nostalgia, an Asian-American streetwear brand founded in 2017 by Filipino-American Jaden Yo-Eco and Chinese-American Humbert Lee. Long before the brand grew into what it is today, the two founders were simply high school students selling T-shirts from the back of their car in a school parking lot. What started as a small hustle eventually became a brand that took the visual language of heritage and brought it into the world of contemporary streetwear.

For more than nine years, Nostalgia has championed Filipino culture through clothing that feels both familiar and unexpected. Their designs pull from details that carry generations of cultural memory, from paisley and barrio lace button-ups, to knit jackets, and more. There is playfulness to the way Nostalgia approaches heritage. Rather than simply reproducing traditional motifs, the brand turns them over, reshapes them, and gives them a new context.

The brand’s newest collection arrives just in time for Filipino American History Month, continuing the brand’s conversation between Filipino heritage and contemporary American style. Among the standout pieces is a Barong-inspired short-sleeve shirt, which draws from one of the Philippines’ most recognizable garments. An acid-wash studded hoodie brings a distinctly streetwear edge to the collection, while a gold bracelet takes inspiration from the rays of the sun on the Philippine flag, transforming a national symbol into a wearable piece of identity.
