LIVE UPDATES: Sara Duterte impeachment trial | Oct. 7, 2026

MANILA, Philippines – The Senate impeachment court on Wednesday is set to hear from representatives of several banks on the financial records of Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, as the prosecution presents evidence in support of its allegations of unexplained wealth.
The witnesses are expected to testify on at least 30 bank accounts across eight banks, with the prosecution claiming the accounts had combined ending balances of more than P190 million that were not declared in Duterte’s SALN.

- On Tuesday, Land Bank of the Philippines R. Magsaysay Branch Manager Raquel dela Cerna testified that Carpio maintained an active account at the branch. She said the account’s year-end balances from 2022 to 2025 were P505,517.35, P953,681.42, P115,824.20 and P1,358,373.07, respectively.
- Davao Toril Branch Manager Arcy James Gonzales, Davao Tagum Branch Manager Edeli Umayam, and Ortigas Ave. Greenhills Branch Manager Jerilee Mae C. Sanidad are expected to testify.
- Branch Operations Department Head Irene Joy Ishida is scheduled to take the stand.
- Anti-Money Laundering Division Head Atty. Niña Feren Aguilar is expected to testify.
- Branch Banking Group Head Leslie Cham is also set to appear before the impeachment court.
- Central Manila Branches Division Head Marwin Galvez is expected to present records.
- Davao San Pedro CM Recto Branch Manager Julius Parian is among the scheduled witnesses.
- Branch Regulatory Support Senior AVP Mario Cirilo De Mesa Jr., Consumer Banking Group Vice President Merian Manoguid, and Trust and Investment Group Senior Vice President Patricia Lei Alvarillo are expected to testify.
- After the bank representatives, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer lawyer Juan Sotero Roman is expected to become the first insurance company representative to take the witness stand. /dp

‘IT’S NOT THE VICE PRESIDENT?’
Asia United Bank (AUB) Davao-Toril Branch Manager Arcy James Gonzales confirmed that Atty. Manases Carpio has two bank accounts, with his second account shared with another person, which Gonzales also clarified is not Vice President Sara Duterte.
The ending balances in 2024 for the two accounts were P456,352.28 and P867,291.90, respectively, and P0 and P871,998.77 in 2025, respectively. #VPonTrial
