JoJo shares details of the upcoming Aquamarine reboot: ‘It’s gonna be beautiful!’
With the hit teen fantasy film Aquamarine celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, American singer and actress JoJo (real name Joanna “JoJo” Levesque) recently delighted fans when she teased about a possible reboot during an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the VMAs (Video Music Awards) red carpet last September 27.
Although she confirmed that there are already plans for a pilot episode, the exact title for the reboot has yet to be announced.
“It’s currently a pilot, and if it’s greenlit for more episodes, then maybe you’ll see your girl. If the stars align and it’s meant to be, then, of course, I’d like to reprise my role. I think it’s going to be beautiful. Disney+ knows what they’re doing. The pilot script is amazing. I’m so excited about it!” she shared.

First released in 2006, the film is based on the 2001 novel by Alice Hoffman and follows the story of two friends named Claire Brown (played by Emma Roberts) and Hailey Rogers (played by JoJo) as they enjoyed their last few days together, before Hailey and her mom move to Australia for a new marine biologist job. When Hailey prays for a miracle to make her to stay in Florida with her best friend, a sudden storm occurs. And then when they wake up the next morning, they meet a mermaid named Aquamarine (played by Sara Paxton) in the local swimming pool and help her prove that true love does exist.
In a 2024 interview with PEOPLE magazine, JoJo talked about how her cult classic film first brought out all her insecurities about her body, “I was not as skinny as the other girls. I just remember feeling like that, and I was like, ‘Oh.’ So from a young age, I think, we’re all kind of aware, or we’re measuring ourselves up next to other girls — and I was no different.”
Although she is primarily known as a singer, JoJo first made her acting debut in Aquamarine in 2006 followed by various roles in television and movies as well as a stint on Broadway in Moulin Rouge! The Musical. She also released a memoir Over the Influence in 2024 about her experience about working in the entertainment industry at an early age and how it shaped her adult life.
